Why Me!! by Sri Sitaram Das Omkarnath!!
Have you ever thought WHY ME??
Sri Sitaram Das Omkarnath’s thoughts on Sorrow:
No such thing as "why me?"
To those who think that they are chosen targets of vagaries of destiny and singled out for suffering, Thakur points out the following:
Think of Mother Sita- she suffered despite being the wife of God- think of Nala and Damayanti- think of the tale of Srivatsa’s - think of the misfortunes of Pandavas- think of the pain of Nanda, Yashoda, boon companions of Krishna, the beloved Radha and other consorts.
The function of sorrow is depletion of karmas.
“Sukhasya Dukhasya na kopidaataa”* – Happiness or unhappiness is not given by anybody else. Human being enjoys happiness or undergoes sorrow as a consequence of one’s own karmas. God does away with punya (the merit of good deeds) by giving happiness and He wipes out paap or sins by giving sorrow.
Yogavashishtam declares further…Parodadateeti kubuddhireshaAham karometi vridhaabhimaanahSwakarma sootrah gradhitohi lokah If one thinks that it (happiness or unhappiness) had fallen on him because of somebody else, it is only foolishness. It is also not correct to say that he himself is the cause for anybody else’s happiness or unhappiness as it is tantamount to egoism. It is only one’s own making.
