A Baul is based on Sanatan Dharma because their roots are deep in Bengal India, thousands of years.
However, they also accept Buddhist thought, Sufi thought as these thoughts flowed into Bengal and they have their own thoughts too because they are free thinkers. Bauls are Bhakti Yogi's with a Vaishnava slant, their only concern is Love or Prema they are mad for Love they are the bee looking for the honey also known as Honey Catchers, their darshan is their song and dance, they do not care about caste or creed silly rules and regulations, the divine is their only cause..
Radha, Radha Radha and Kali Ma Ma Ma Goddess/God is their only cause they do not care about your orthodox waste of time book knowledge of personal opinion and personal translation they are an Sanskrit oral tradition who sang in the vernacular Bengali language of Birbhum, they will keep far from you. Birbhum Bengali is way different from Bangladeshi Bengali and so are the songs and if you know the language one can tell who is singing what and what is Baul and what is not, that is why outsiders do not have a clue. Bauls of Birbhum also, have their Baul practices and are not just poets as Lalon Fakir was, he was a great poet but he was not a Baul.
This lineage is Radha Krishna Gosai a lineage of Poets and Philosophers and ancestors of Nitai of Ekkchakra who are storytellers of the ancient roots of Vaishnava in Bengal..
I know it turns up noses and some think how can that be because we have been taught they are degraded by the orthodox copy and paste mentality, hey did you know a true Vaishnava does not talk or think like that???
Nitai had many ancestors well it is so get over yourself no one can own it all. Just Love and Be Loved.. as far as a Baul is concerned that is all their is but Love... yes they know all the stories of Radha and Krishna Shiva and Kali... so what??
Just LOVE LOVE..and if you do not know what Love is look into the eyes of a baby sometime or of the person who sits right beside you, Or if you are lucky enough to listen to a Baul sing and dance you can get a glimpse, the Vaishnava Bauls were the spiritual newspaper in Bengal before modern times.
Vaishnava Tantric Bauls are the original Hare Krishna singers and dancer from thousands of years back who would go from village to village with the morning wake up call Hare Krishna Hare Krishna then they sing their teachings in Bengal although in their homes they spoke oral sanskrit.
